What Does "Money" Mean to You?

If you've read some of the blogs or other content I've written in the past, you might notice I tend to write about two main subjects. I'm often either writing about the current events affecting our economy, or I'm writing about broad topics that can help the everyday person begin planning around their finances. While it's pretty obvious these topics are important to me, today I want to take a step back and pose the question "What does money mean to you?" Let's talk about it.

By now it's apparent that I personally think everyone should be planning for retirement, investing in the market, constructing an estate plan, etc. But I often times forget to take a step back and remember, that to be brutally honest, a lot of people just don't care about these things. A lot of people are making ends meet and are content with doing just that, and that's totally cool! I do however think that we should at least ask ourselves what money truly means to us. Think through these ideas below, and if you come to a conclusion, I'd like to invite you to share with me what "money" means to you.

Security - Maybe the idea of having money poses the idea of being secure. The more money you have, the more secure you and your family feel.

Power - Maybe you judge your own power based on the amount of money you have. You have the power to make all your own decisions and take better control of your life.

Happiness - Maybe you feel an overall sense of happiness when you have more money. You feel like the problems in your life seem to go away when you're financially stable.

Freedom - Maybe financial independence is the only thing holding you back from being totally free. The more money you have, the more free you feel.

Respect - Maybe you feel or demand a greater sense of respect when you have money. You've worked hard for your money, and would like some respect in that regard.

Think about these ideas, maybe none of these fit your definition of what money really means. Maybe you have a totally different viewpoint, please do share! There's a comment box below, if you'd like to tell me about how you feel after reading this, please don't hesitate. The comments will be anonymous, so only put your name if you'd like me to know who it's coming from.
